Did Someone Jump In Front Of Your Car And Get Hit Accidentally? Get A Lawyer Fast

If you were driving down the road and you hit someone crossing the street, but the person ran out suddenly and it isn't fair that you're facing criminal charges, you'll want to hire a lawyer right away. If you can show that you weren't speeding, you weren't intoxicated, and that you weren't driving recklessly in any way, it shouldn't be your fault that the person ran out in front of you.

It's unfortunate that the victim got hit, but if you only think they are out to get a settlement, and that they are to blame for the accident that took place, you'll need proof. Here are a few things to take to your lawyer.

Black Box Data Recorder Report

This box should show exactly what you were doing when the collision with the victim occurred. This should say what speed you were going, if you hit the brakes, if the hit was hard enough to deploy the air bag, if you had and turn signals on and more. With this report you can show that you weren't speeding or driving too fast for conditions, and there will be other valuable information your lawyer will need for your case.

Eyewitness Statements

Was someone in the car with you, or where there others around at the time of the accident? If so, you want to have them write a letter or give a statement in person to your attorney to state that the person jumped out in front of you unexpectedly. You may have to get the names of eyewitnesses from the police report, or go back to the scene to get this information.

Potential Video Recordings

Did the accident occur in front of an office building, traffic light, bank, or another area where there could have been a video recording everything? If so, your criminal defense lawyer may want to contact all of these property owners to see if they can get the tapes to help your case.

You don't want to go to jail or live with severe charges on your permanent record because someone didn't look before they crossed the street, and because someone ran out in front of you without your control. Talk with a lawyer so you can find a defense path for your case, and so you can get out of the charges to avoid doing jail time, along with facing other fines and possibly license suspension.
